Our Staff

Dr Mace and Dr Jones (who are husband and wife) purchased Paynesville Dental from David and Sue Griffiths in 2019.

Dr Stephen Mace

Having qualified in the UK in 2004, I manned the trenches of NHS dentistry for a few years before leaving for the fairer shores of Australia, starting work in Melbourne in 2008. Now with a wealth of experience in all facets of dentistry I am confident in taking on a wide variety of treatment plans, but particularly enjoy dental implant work, crown and bridgework.

Away from the dental surgery, Sophia and I are kept fairly busy with four young kids. Sports are my main distraction otherwise, with football (both the proper kind - soccer, and the pretend kind - AFL) my main interests. And I suppose I'd better see about getting a bit more boaty...

Dr Sophia Jones

Like Steve, I also qualified at Bristol Dental School in the west of England. We moved to Australia for a supposed year, but never quite left...

My time is divided between trying to retain some kind of order in the madness of having three young sons and a baby daughter, and the practice. I love the variety of day-to-day general dentistry, and developing relationships with patients and families over time. I completed a masters degree in 2012, giving me a little more insight into aesthetic and restorative dentistry.

Dr Frazer Gatens

I graduated with a masters degree from Griffith University, on the Gold Coast, and have since worked in the private sector in Melbourne and the regional Sapphire Coast of New South Wales. I enjoy servicing regional and rural areas in which I spent my internship years working out of the Kingaroy, Queensland and completed community voluntary care to the Cherbourg region.

My main interests include oral surgery and endodontic therapy, as well as dental sleep medicine. My main focus is that the patients feel comfortable in the chair with complete understanding of their personal oral health, and that the experience is pain free. Outside interests include local football and spearfishing.

Jane Miles - Dental Therapist

A Bairnsdale local of 19 years, I graduated in 1996 at the University of Melbourne.

I have always enjoyed treating patients up to age 25, however I recently completed the Graduate Certificate in Dental Therapy (Advanced Clinical Practice), allowing me to now treat patients of all ages.

In my spare time my husband and I enjoy boating, fishing and watersports with our three children.
